Preaction Paper 3

Preaction Paper 3

Q The purpose of a “preaction” paper is to give students the opportunity to write about a topic from class. This helps to communicate what students already know about specific sport-related topics, as well as demonstrate students’ current level of writing for assessment purposes. The results will enable the instructors to identify students’ strengths and weaknesses, and make the most of our short time together. Write a 1-page (250 word minimum) paper that includes 1-2 of the topics listed below. You are welcome–but not required–to include references to external sources. If you do, be sure to follow APA citation guidelines. Also, please review the “A note on written assignments” section of the syllabus for further guidelines. Preaction Topics: • Why kids participate and stop participating in sport • Challenges in interscholastic or collegiate sport • The United States influence on world sport • Nationalism and the Olympic movement • Strategies for good sporting behavior • Issues of race and ethnicity in sport • Historical role of women in sport • Social class and sport activity participation • Sport participation for athletics with physical or mental disabilities • Use of religion in sport by athletes • Use of religion in sport by coaches, organizations, and owners • Nationalism and sport • Violence in sport • Performance enhancement through drugs in sport • Gambling and sport • Technology trends in sport • Trends in sport participation • Ownership in professional sport • Collegiate sports as a moneymaker • Interplay of sport and the media • Recreational sport as a business Rubric Writing Exercises Writing Exercises Criteria Ratings Pts This criterion is linked to a Learning OutcomeReflection 1 pts Exceeds Standards Demonstrates a thoughtful and thorough understanding of the writing prompt and the subject matter. Violence in sports is a serious issue. As sports is a physical activity and requires intense and immense mobility of players, there are high possibilities of violence being inflicted, either intentionally or unintentionally (Sekot, 2009). When a player hurts another purposefully, the former is considered to be violent and is said to be intentionally influencing the game to bring out a result that is favorable to the perpetrator and his team. Such behavior is illegal and immoral and disrupts the sportsman spirit. When a player harms another player unintentionally, it is generally not considered violence.
